HighSchoolSports.net's Email Templates
When I began working for USA TODAY Sports on HighSchoolSports.net, the way that emails were created was to build each one, one at a time, almost from scratch. The sales resource putting these emails together had some HTML, but, each email send was a struggle.
The two of us sat down together and worked out a basic template by which he could easily; add new banners, swap out backgrounds, add new right rail photos, add tabular data as needed, and easily update the header and footer graphics. In the templates, I clearly annotated the code for each section and created these reusable snippets. We've reused these templates dozens of times and the average send only takes an hour or two from start to finish now.
